Start With the Business Constraint

The useful question is not whether SaaS or custom software is universally better. It is which option gives your organization the right combination of time-to-value, functional fit, control, integration capability, operating cost and long-term flexibility.

Five Questions to Model

1. Does an existing SaaS product cover the critical workflow without expensive workarounds?

2. Is the workflow a genuine competitive differentiator or a standard business function?

3. What is the three-to-five-year total cost at your expected user, transaction and storage levels?

4. What data-processing, residency, security or contractual requirements apply to the specific system?

5. Which internal and UAE-specific systems must it integrate with, and are supported APIs available?

Compare Total Cost, Not a Generic Price Range

SaaS usually shifts more cost into recurring subscriptions and vendor-controlled pricing; custom software shifts more cost into discovery, design, development, infrastructure and ongoing ownership. Neither is automatically cheaper. Build a model using actual vendor quotes, implementation costs, migration, integrations, support, expected growth and switching costs rather than relying on universal per-user or custom-build averages.

For systems processing personal data in the UAE, the UAE Personal Data Protection Law framework is one input to the architecture and vendor assessment; it does not by itself dictate SaaS or custom software.

We have experience on both sides of this decision: SIYNEX is an Async Innovations SaaS product case study. Explore custom software development and SaaS development when comparing the two delivery models.
