A Five-Step Vetting Process
1. Ask for relevant client or product references and verify the work that is actually attributable to the vendor.2. Confirm the named team, roles and expected allocation instead of buying an anonymous pool of developers.
3. Use discovery or a bounded paid milestone when the requirements or working relationship are still uncertain.
4. Require a proposal that states scope, assumptions, exclusions, QA, security, release responsibilities and support.
5. Have appropriate legal counsel review IP, confidentiality, governing law, privacy and exit terms when they are material to the engagement.
